The Mountains to Sea National Greenway is a long-distance trail in Taiwan designated as a “National Greenway,” stretching 177 kilometers from the Taijian inland sea in Tainan all the way to Mt. Jade Main Peak. It connects ocean and mountains, plains and indigenous communities, forming a journey rich in natural and cultural diversity. Together with the Tamsui-Kavalan Historical and Cultural Trails and the Raknus Selu Trail, it is recognized as one of Taiwan’s three major National Greenways.

The route spans Tainan, Chiayi, and Nantou, passing through three national scenic areas, two national parks—including Taijian National Park—and multiple river basins. From the Zengwen River to Mt. Jade Main Peak, it showcases five climate zones and four major aquatic ecosystems. The trail is divided into four themed sections—Inner Sea Trail, Canal Trail, Tribal Trail, and Sacred Mountain Trail—weaving together landscapes of nature, culture, and spiritual heritage.

Whether you want to feel the sea breeze of the Taijian wetlands, stroll through the farmlands of the Jianan Plain, or gaze up at the grandeur of Mt. Jade Main Peak, this greenway offers a pace and experience for everyone. This year, the route is filled with surprises. Each trail features unique hidden gems, and completing a trail earns you an exclusive online achievement badge. As you explore and collect all the gems along the way, you’ll unlock the official completion certificate for “Mountains to Sea: The Waterway of Yoichi Hatta.”
